The award-winning documentary film “Run Free – The True Story of Caballo Blanco” will be screening at the 2015 Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival, in Providence, RI. The free screening is scheduled for Friday August 7 at 1:00p.m.

The film by director Sterling Noren chronicles the life of American ultra running legend Micah True (Caballo Blanco, or the White Horse) and his quest to create an ultra marathon in Mexico’s Copper Canyon to promote and preserve Tarahumara running tradition. True was a main character in Christopher McDougall’s best-selling book “Born to Run – A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen”.

Rhode Island International Film Festival takes place in the historic city of Providence as well as satellite locations throughout the state. The Festival is dedicated to the creation of opportunities for artistic exchange among independent filmmakers, directors, producers, and the film-going public. The festival’s mission is to discover fresh and talented voices in the world of independent film.

When we were first asked by Micah True to make a documentary film about his life and running with the Tarahumara in the Copper Canyon, we pledged to make a difference by giving something back to the local community. This film would not be possible without the inspiration and beauty of the Copper Canyon environment, including most of all the people who live there. We are proud to support the not-for-profit Norawas de Rarámuri that was founded by the international runners of the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon. Their mission is “to provide maize, non-GMO seed corn, and cash awards for participating Rarámuri runners, men and women alike. In this way we offer both nutrition during drought and support for a tradition of small farms necessary to both physical and cultural survival.”

Seattle, WA – “Run Free – The True Story of Caballo Blanco” is off to a strong start winning awards at film festivals while making its way into movie theaters and online distribution. The film about ultra runner Micah True was released earlier this year by Noren Films of Seattle, Washington. The World Premiere took place in March at the Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco in Urique, Mexico. The US Premiere occurred in April before the Boston Marathon and was Presented by Saucony. A ten-city screening tour in May included several sold-out showings in cities across the southwestern USA. Viewers who would like to see the movie have several options available to them.

The film is currently touring the festival circuit where it has garnered several prizes including the Bud Greenspan Documentary Film Award from the Track & Field Writers of America, an IndieFEST Award of Excellence and “Best Feature Documentary” at the Arizona International Film Festival. In addition it has been nominated for three awards at the Madrid International Film Festival including “Best Feature Documentary”, “Best Director of a Feature Documentary” and “Best Producer of a Feature Documentary “. Other film festivals where the movie is screening include the New Hope Film Festival in Pennsylvania and the Rhode Island International Film Festival.

Fans who would like to see the film in their own city are encourage to host a screening event through Tugg.com, a web-platform that enables individuals, groups, and organizations to set up personalized screenings of Run Free in movie theaters across the country. These events can be used as fundraisers and can include audience discussions.

“This has been a very organic project from the beginning and giving people the ability to host their own community movie screenings is a really great opportunity to share the message of Caballo Blanco in an authentic and grass-roots way.” says film director Sterling Noren.

The film will be released online in September through Vimeo.com where viewers will be able to purchase the film digitally for the first time, as either a 48-hour rental (download to rent) or a digital download (download to own).

Run Free is getting ready to go for a run at the 2015 Madrid International Film Festival in Madrid, Spain. Our film has been accepted in to the festival and will be screening Sunday July 5 at 1:15 pm in Screening Room 3.

After two weeks of screening more than 120 films, Run Free – The True Story of Caballo Blanco won the Best Documentary Award at the 24th annual Arizona International Film Festival. Director Sterling Noren and Executive Producer Maria Walton were at the awards ceremony in Tucson, AZ to accept the prestigious film award. We’re incredibly proud to accept this recognition for our film and grateful for the support and hospitality of the Arizona International Film festival.

Run Free – The True Story of Caballo Blanco has been selected to screen at the Arizona International Film Festival (April 9-26). The Festival announced their selection of films including 33 features and 76 shorts from 20 countries for screening at the 2015 Arizona International Film Festival. The Selection Committee praised the quality and diversity of the record number of films submitted this year.
